Man of Steel
REDEEMING FACTORS: Nothing! WHY IT'S HERE: Zack Snyder's Man of Steel is a complete affront to everything that made the Superman franchise iconic and legendary. It's like The Last Jedi of Superman films. This piece of crap gave me a migraine trying to comprehend it's mindless bombardment of nonsensical carnage. What modern filmmakers just don't get about the Superman mythos is that Superman comics were NEVER about the Blue Guy, punching out superpowered bad guys and basically wrecking half the city--as is demonstrated in this exploitation monstrocity--Superman, diverged somewhat from the Batman mythos in that unlike the dark knight, the caped crusader CHOOSES to become a public figure in broad daylight. And attention to the fact that yes, Kal-el is essentially an alien amongst humans, 'fragile' humans at that, this was never the underlining bottom line to Superman's character. Superman represented an 'idea', a symbol to which could aspire ordinary humans, because Kal-el was raised as a human himself, on a subconscious level this is meant to represent that perhaps 'we too' are suppressing ourselves to discovering our true, noblest, and perhaps most 'fantastic' potential. THIS, is basically just some big blue guy in tights, WRECKING the joint, he fucks up half the planet. He's a goddamn terrorist, no wonder he's depicted in Dawn of Justice under such ominous overtones. Fuck you Snyder, seriously!!

How It Ends
REDEEMING FACTORS: Nope! WHY IT'S HERE: The film actually started out with a half decent plotline, I was willing to entertain the concept. However, very quickly into the thing contrived disaster-movie cliches begin popping up and it really makes the pacing rather sluggish and awkward. The BIGGEST sin of all however is the conclusion--leaving us with absolutely no, not even and attempt at providing sufficient closure. The film ultimately leaves nagging questions unanswered and a finality that seems pretty far from it.

Throw Momma from the Train (1987)
REDEEMING FACTORS: It's a Danny DeVito directorial effort. I can see what the filmmakers were 'trying' to aim for... WHY IT'S HERE: This movie is just awful. There are so many PAINFULLY awkward and hideously unfunny dark humored moments it makes for a particularly uncomfortable viewing experience. A blatantly perverse and macabre updated version of Alfred Hitchcock's suspense classic Strangers On a Train (1951) this film lacks any of the charm, intrigue, or danger of the original. I mainly just found myself checking my watch in between cold fevered sweats.
